About Us

Sterling Capitol PLC was formed in 1992 by Bob Murray (now Sir Bob Murray CBE) and the award-winning property company has forged an excellent reputation as one of the most accomplished and effective developers of its kind in the north of England. Sterling Capitol’s headquarters are in the centre of the thriving city of Leeds and the company continues to expand across all market sectors.

Sterling Capitol was set up to deliver a unique strategy of high-quality Capitol Park branded business parks, which would remain in ownership and deliver long-term growth. These parks are based in Yorkshire, close to the county’s excellent motorway network.

The three key parks are Capitol Park Leeds, Capitol Park Barnsley and Capitol Park Goole. Overall, these parks have created nearly 4,000 jobs and current tenants include the NHS, Hermes, Henderson Insurance Brokers, Barratt Homes, Pitchero, Depuy, AvailableCar, Ideal Heating, Tesco and Drax.

Previous job-creating Sterling Capitol-owned Capitol Parks were located at Thorne, near Doncaster, developed in partnership with Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and Yorkshire Forward, and Normanton, near Wakefield. These have been developed and then sold to institutions.

Sterling Capitol is proud to work in partnership with local authorities and government agencies and the company’s contribution to the Yorkshire economy is very significant. Councillor Christopher Townsley, the former Lord Mayor of Leeds, commented that Yorkshire needed prestigious developments like Capitol Park Leeds, saying: “All credit is due to Sterling Capitol for overseeing this superb development and creating these much-needed jobs.”

Mike Heydecke of Sterling Capitol explained: “All our Capitol Parks have been tremendous success stories and recent lettings and deals have strengthened our position in the market. As a company, we are extremely proud of what we have achieved in Yorkshire. Job creation is at the heart of our plans and we have developed some of the most impressive business parks in Yorkshire, with an excellent mix of tenants and facilities. Premier business locations such as our Capitol Parks remain popular.”

Another jewel in Sterling Capitol’s crown is the 36-acre Capitol Park Barnsley, by Junction 37 of the M1, which has been developed in conjunction with Barnsley Metropolitan District Council, Objective One and Renaissance South Yorkshire. More than 700 jobs have been created on site, providing a significant boost to the economy of the Barnsley region, with occupiers including Finance Yorkshire, Hargreaves Engineering, Kelda Water, Christys Dress Up and Ramada Encore.

Meanwhile Capitol Park Goole, by Junction 36 of the M62, completes the current Sterling Capitol business park portfolio. Occupiers include Tesco, Guardian Glass and Drax.
