27th July 2020

Ten grassroots community groups in the area have been awarded a contribution of £15,000. Home Start, the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, the Helping Others Charity, the YMCA, Green Team, Friends of Old Goole, Two Rivers food bank, the forcible Edible group in Marshlands, Snaith Priory Church and Goole and Snaith Imagination Library will all benefit from the boost thanks to Sterling Capitol’s generous donation. The Leeds based company which is responsible for developing local employment powerhouses such as Tesco Distribution, Guardian Glass and the Junction 36 development site worked with MP Andrew Percy to distribute the money to local causes dedicated to getting the community through the coronavirus. Mr Percy said he was ” delighted” by the company’s generosity and said he was also grateful for their willingness to upgrade the public access life-saving defibrillator based in his office on Pasture Road.

“Many community groups are seeing a substantial drop in income or fundraising at this time and so boosts such as this are groups appreciated. “My thanks go to Sterling Capitol for this funding and I would also like to thank all the community groups and volunteers in our area who are doing a fantastic job at the moment.” Chairman of Sterling Capitol, Sir Bob Murray said: “As a nation, we are all living in unprecedented times but hopefully coming together through acts of kindness and supporting one another through unimaginable challenges. Tunes are difficult times for individuals, families, businesses and local groups, which also play an important role in our community. “At Sterling Capitol, we believe we also have a role to play in supporting, our local community and helping to power our recovery at the right time – and wanted to share a little kindness 1 of our own.” Mr Percy has also helped to secure, funding for local groups through his bid-writing service, so far racking in £1m for local causes, such as Old Goole Working Men’s Club.
